I’ve delivered my Monster creation to the Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity (GOSH). Using the imaginative line drawing provided by Avondale Primary School, I created the fun piece below. The Hospital invited UK illustrators to donate their time and talent for a GOSH Monster Book, which will be released at Christmas. All proceeds will go to the Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity.

"Moster Tall"

July has been a fun month and I’ve had my fingers dipped in many creative pots. I just wrapped up a television ad for Kolik Films and STV Creative. I developed all the design from the script stage to delivery and look forward to seeing my work on the box later this month. I picked up some more flash banner work with my pals over at Blonde. I’m putting the finishing touches on my monster illustration for The Great Ormond Street Hospital, who have launched the GOSH Moster Book website. There’s some exciting prospects on the horizon for August as well. Stay tuned…

I had an amazing time joining Blonde Digital as an animator in residence for the last five weeks. Hope to be back soon! They even wrote a fab post about my time there. Check out what they had to say.

Splitscreen: A Love Story

I went to see Sumo Science & Aardman talk at EIFF as part of the Nokia Shorts Weekender. It was an amazingly inspirational chat. “Dot” is the world’s smallest stop frame animation with the main character measuring a mere 9mm. They shot the film using Celloscope technology on a Nokia 8 Camera Phone. Celloscope is a microscope attached to the end of the camera phone and was invented so nurses could take pictures of blood samples, email them to doctors thousands of miles away, and immediately diagnose patients to provide treatments for diseases such as malaria. Sumo Science shot the film literally under a microscope to achieve fantastic and surreal results.

“Gulp” is in production and is going to break the World Record for largest stop-frame animation. By contrast, they attached the Nokia 8 to a crane and shot down on a beach, using the sand as a massive 2-D canvas and involved found elements, pixelation, and large models. I can’t wait to see the finished product.

I have accepted an invitation to contribute to a book for the Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity (GOSH).

They have invited 33 illustrators to create an image of a monster that will be published for this coming Christmas. The book will contain a collection of Monster drawings that have been created by 4 pupils from 33 schools around London. The school who drew the Monster I will illustrate is Avondale Primary School.

Each of the Monsters have been given a name that the 4 children decided. The Monsters name for my illustration is Monster Tall, and he’s pretty funky. I’m looking forward to bringing him to life!

I’ve been hard at work with the fantastic Edinburgh digital design agency Blonde. If you haven’t come across their work yet you definitely need to check them out. I’ve been working with their talented team to help produce digital work for exciting clients and I was pretty excited to see my first flash banners go live-you can see them too on the Alliance Trust Savings Website.

Bacardi “Manifesto.” Amazing design. Effective communication. Clever animation. Even a sense of humour. What’s not to like?

Wow. My SEO pet project this week is already showing dramatic results. If you google “freelance animator” or “freelance animator Edinburgh” and a few other key phrases my site now shows up on the first page. If you’re a wordpress user, this SEO plug-in is essential.

I have just finished updating the site with new material and new features. I’ve added lightbox and some effects to make video and imaging navigation even easier. I’ve also added branding to my illustration page, and a digital book.
